The Wicksteed Pavilion

The Pavilion at Wicksteed Park dates back to 1923. However within a couple of years, it became apparent that the Pavilion was not large enough for the amount of people using it and by 1927 the first the 'North Room' was opened in 1927 and later became the Ice Cream Parlour.

The Pavilion managed for a further 8 years until the opening of the 'South Room' and the extension to the Ice Cream Parlour in 1935 with the adding of the Pavilion shelter on the North end and West side being built in 1937. During the Second World War, the Pavilion was occupied by Military Personnel, both from the UK and USA.

The Wicksteed Park Pavilion: Post War

With the end of the War, a number of areas for refurbishment were identified, this included the Canteen Kitchens which were rebuilt and fitted with modern equipment in 1948.

Wicksteed Park Ice Cream became very popular and due to the demand a new home was required and the Ice Cream Factory which was finally relocated to a purpose built building in 1955 with a further extension being opened in 1958. The Ice Cream Parlour which was still sited within the North Room of the Pavilion was modified in 1963. No other changes to the Pavilion took place until 1972 when the St.George's Suite, Mal Maison (now the Parkview Bistro) and Kitchen Block were added and the New East Front added in 1976.

In more recent times, the Pavilion has undergone refurbishment and decoration. It is as busy now as ever! We can boast not only a beautiful setting for any wedding, corporate or private event but a building with a vivid history.
